My first reading is a literal one; this poem makes me think of some cloistered women I know who are brilliant. So learned and well-read. They pay quite a price to provide such a sanctuary.

Choice is the key to the tranquil view from within.

Which from the outside or the inside world is being protected against the other?
Is freedom within or without?

An interesting contemplation for this Sunday afternoon. Have you seen the film, Into Great Silence? This reminds of it.

Interesting... doesn't freedom always come at a price on come level? We all make different choices to pursue different freedoms... In my own case, the prison of my agoraphobia also offers me certain internal freedoms that I could not have living in the world like a real person. Thought provoking poem.

It is written with The Benedictine Monks of Gethsemane Abbey in mind...and heart. I spent a week there as a visiting pilgrim 2 summers past...in silence! (not easy for me)it was a remarkable experience...Thomas Merton is burried on the Abbey grounds there...and He often related the sense of freedom he experienced at the moment the Abbey gates closed behing him...if ever you are inclined to take a mental/spiritual vacation, I can highly recommend this sanctuary in Kentucky...

Thanks for the comments!
